When you look back at the past 10 years of your family photos, do you feel that, aside from new additions and the gradual aging of the subjects in the photos, there really is no difference from year to year? The early photos may have an excitement that the later photos lack, and although you don’t want to stop the tradition, you may decide that your Port Aransas holiday visit may be the perfect time to upgrade it, and we at Sandcastle Condominiums agree! So much so that we have created this guide to where you can take the best family holiday Port Aransas beach photos during your Christmas vacation, ensuring that while the subject and the heart of each photo remains the same, the exciting variations explored here will bring back the joy that may have been lacking!

Who Is That Peeking Over Your Shoulder at Roberts Point Park?

For the ultimate in unique backdrops, posing with Sandy Claus peeking over your shoulder will definitely earn you bonus points in the originality column, and if you are wondering if we may a typo, thinking it should be Santa Claus, you would be incorrect. Sandy Claus, also known as Sand Santa, is a sand and water construction created by the most talented sand sculptors in the state and is a much loved tradition in the Port Aransas area. Every year from Thanksgiving through the new year, Sand Santa is designed to display the best of our coastal town. Having appeared in a Farley Boat Works sand boat fishing for his supper and a variety of other ways, this local landmark turns every photo into a whimsical one filled with memories and laughter!

Oh Christmas Tree

There are more than a few ways to pose in front of a Christmas tree, and whether you go back to Roberts Point Park to pose in front of the Memorial Christmas Tree or choose to add your own sandy touch to your holiday beach photos by constructing one from sand and water (and maybe a few colorful ornaments!), your family photos will bring a sense of joy and festivity that have been missing for quite a while now. Personally, we love the idea of dressing in your favorite ugly Christmas sweaters and posing next to or in front of a white sand Christmas tree you created as a family, but the Memorial Christmas Tree at Roberts Point Park offers a way to include the family members who may no longer be with you in this time honored tradition!

Oh Holy Night

The deeper reason behind the season may draw you towards places of worship, and when your compass points you in the direction of Chapel on the Dunes, located at 203 S 11th Street, the photos you take of your family in front of its white stucco exterior can bring you a sense of peace and well-being that is often hard to find in the frenetic chaos of the holiday season. Normally, our holiday photos are filled with color and “noise,” but we think black and white shots of family and chapel will give each photo the quiet needed to make Christmas 2024 memorable. We especially love the sand and timber steps that lead up to the chapel with rope bannisters wrapped around wood posts as a posing spot, lining up the family to capture the chapel, the sky, and sea oats waving in the wind, creating a picture of pure beauty and warmth.

Horace Caldwell Pier

Just because there isn’t anything particularly holiday-like on Horace Caldwell Pier, it doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to take the most beautiful holiday family photos there. Choosing sunset as your backdrop, those ugly Christmas sweaters we mentioned earlier will look stunning against the wood railings of this historic pier, especially as the sky is set to fire by the setting sun and the sound of the surf burrows its way into your brain, making the idea of making seaside holiday pics an annual tradition seem like a very excellent idea!
