The joy of summer is always enhanced with a beach vacation, and as you start planning your own beach vacation on the shores of Port Aransas, we at Sandcastle Condominiums thought that now would be the perfect time to fill you in on some events that could quite possibly be taking place during your visit. We want our guests to have Texas-sized adventures while exploring all that Port A has to offer, and although you will want to spend much of your time at the beach, (and an equal amount of time at home in your seasonal sanctuary!) we feel that you can never have too many items on your vacation itinerary. If you don’t cross them all off on this visit, it just means you should return for another Texas trip of a lifetime! Here are some of our favorite summer events in Port Aransas.
Palm Fest, May 3-5, The Palm Social Club, 801 Tarpon St
Come out and enjoy live music, sunshine, the ocean breeze, and ice-cold cocktails at the Palm Social Club. The weekend is jam-packed of headlining bands and singers. Individual day passes can be purchased ($20 for Friday, $30 for Saturday) or you can get a Weekend Pass for $50. The Third Annual Palm Fest promises to be an exciting weekend for all of Port Aransas to enjoy.
Shrimporee, June 14-16, Shrimporee Community Park 200-266 E Johnson Avenue, Aransas Pass
Yes, this festival actually takes place the week before summer begins, and yes, Aransas Pass isn’t quite Port Aransas, but we don’t think you will mind either of those facts when you see all that Shrimporee has to offer. Located just minutes from the comfort of your home sweet vacation condo, Shrimporee is the largest shrimp festival in the state of Texas, having graced our doorstep for 76 years. If shrimp is not your favorite meal, after a visit here, we are sure it will become your newest obsession! Offering live music, vendors selling their most creative wares, carnival rides, games, and of course, a taste of the Gulf that you will dream about for years to come, we can promise that this unique summer festival will soon become your favorite.
Guided Wetland Walks, Wetland Education Center, 855 E Cotter Avenue, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 9AM
We love to celebrate the natural beauty of Port Aransas and this free weekly occurring event is always a popular choice. Taking place in the morning, before the heat of the day becomes an issue, and lasting about 45 minutes, this walking tour is a simple event, made more special by the knowledgeable guides who lead and gives visitors the opportunity to understand the wild side of Port Aransas even better. Only 15 visitors can take part on a first come, first served basis, so be sure to arrive early to secure your slot.
4th of July Festivities, Roberts Point Park, 301 JC Barr Boulevard
4th of July in our all-American town is always a time to enjoy, and if you have planned your vacation to coincide with the celebration, Roberts Point Park is where you want to be after the sun tumbles into the sea. Offering picnic pavilions to encourage a picnic in the park, the fireworks show begins at nightfall, and from your vantage point shoreside, you may get to enjoy double the excitement, as the colorful explosions are reflected in the glassy waters of the Corpus Christi Shipping Canal. The show starts at 9:30 and generally lasts about 30 to 45 minutes, so families with young travelers can get their tired babies to bed at a relatively decent hour.
88th Deep Sea Roundup, July 11-July 14, Port Aransas Civic Center
This is the 88th year of Texas’s oldest fishing tournament and it just seems to get better every year, even if you are just going to wait at the dock to see what the boats bring in. Offering a piggy perch roundup for the junior fisher people in your life, and a fantastic dance on awards night it really is just a wonderful way to enjoy the sea, a good boat, and the spirit of competition that the serious anglers bring to the event. Open to everyone who has the $130 registration fee, this annual event may be the start of a new hobby for many of our Sandcastle Condominiums guests.
First Friday, Port Aransas Arts Center, Every First Friday of the Month
This monthly party is perhaps one of our favorite parts of living in Port Aransas and as you explore the art, devour the snacks, and fall under the spell created by some of Port A’s most talented musicians, you too will begin to see the appeal! Starting at 5:30, the event sadly comes to an end just two hours later, but knowing you could always come back next month takes some of the sting out of the ending!
