We have anxiously awaited the arrival of the Annual Shrimporee Festival each year for 76 years, salivating at the thought of all the delicious shrimp just waiting to be devoured and eager to explore all the fun this colorful festival brings. While you’ll find live music performed by top country and Tejano singers, carnival rides, carnival games, and arts and crafts vendors who bring their best stuff to the table, it is the shrimp that we live for. If you ever watched the movie Forrest Gump, you probably remember his friend Bubba who spent half his time on screen listing all the ways shrimp can be prepared; this festival stands as a testament to that poor man’s truths. Also offering shrimp eating contests, family friendly activities, a kids’ zone, face painting, a mechanical bull, and all the shrimp you can eat, this festival is one that should not be missed!
Corpus Christi Rollout Music Fest, June 14th, American Bank Center Arena in Corpus Christi
Summer and live music go together like peanut butter and jelly, and the Corpus Christi Rollout Music Fest is the perfect example. Offering some of the music world’s top performers, including Ludacris, Soulja Boy, and Bow Wow, the arena will be in full on jam mode on this beautiful summer’s night. As we started putting this guide together, we realized that the middle of June is perhaps the best time to visit, offering a plethora of event options, including the free Corpus Christi Juneteenth Festival taking place in downtown Corpus Christi. Offering entertainment, merchandise, panels, and more, this celebration is a meaningful one that you won’t want to miss. And if all the festivals and events of this weekend sound interesting, the good news is there are just three occurring on this weekend, so you can go to the Music Fest on Friday, the Shrimporee on Saturday, and the Juneteenth Festival on Sunday and see them all!
Crazy Cart Crawl, June 22, Roberts Point Park, 3-7 PM
This next event requires a little bit of pre-planning, but the fun you will experience definitely makes it worth the extra effort. The Crazy Cart Crawl takes visitors on a scavenger hunt through town, costing nothing, so it fits into any vacation budget, but it will require the rental of a golf cart, which can be done right here on the site of your Sandcastle Condominiums summer sanctuary, providing a fun adventure whether you decide to participate in the scavenger hunt or not.
