The problem with the holiday dinner is it seems to fall on the same person every year (usually mom) and this year, we think that should change. Although most restaurants in the area will be closed for the holiday, there are a few that remain open, preparing, serving, and clearing away the last big feast of the year and we have listed a few below.
Kody’s, 2034 TX-361 A
A family tradition any time of the year, Kody’s has been a big part of the culinary landscape of Port Aransas since 2009, offering an all-American menu and a family friendly adventure for everyone. Open every day of the year from 11 AM until 2 AM—and yes, that includes all the major holidays—we can’t decide which we love more, their hearty and rib sticking food, the fact that the food is reasonably priced, or the miniature golf course outside that gives the kids even more reason to want to eat here. Offering no frills and generally no specific holiday menu, this Christmas will be tasty, however, especially since the holiday falls on a Wednesday which just so happens to be their regular Prime Rib night!
Roosevelt’s, 200 E Cotter Avenue
Offering an elevated steak and seafood menu, Roosevelt’s is one of our favorite special occasion spots, open every day and offering a special prix-fixe menu on Christmas Day. Reservations are highly recommended, especially if this is something you are considering as a gift for your favorite cook, making it a gift that can be unwrapped one bite at a time. They don’t have their Christmas menu out as of yet, but if you have traveled this way before and enjoyed their Thanksgiving menu, you already have an idea of what a treat you are in for.
Too Comfortable to Go Out?
When you want to give yourself the gift of staying in and enjoying all the wonderful moments with your family, it doesn’t always mean you have to spend that time in the kitchen slaving over a hot stove. Some of our local businesses, restaurants and grocery stores, will provide fully cooked meals that you will only need to heat up and enjoy and we have listed two of them below.
Tortuga’s Saltwater Grill, 429 N Alister Street
Tortuga’s Saltwater Grill is another restaurant that is expected to be open on Christmas, and their seafood-centric menu never disappoints, but for today’s purposes, we want to discuss their catering services. Offering meals for groups of most sizes, they will even stay and serve it if you need, but most people prefer their drop-off services on the holiday, wanting to keep the intimacy of a family event while enjoying a delicious meal prepared by people who quite obviously have a passion for feeding other people.
H.E.B Grocery Store, 101 E Goodnight Avenue in Aransas Pass
Another option for dining at home without all the work involved can be found at H.E.B. Grocery Store in nearby Aransas Pass. Offering a pre-cooked meal that just needs to be heated up in our fully equipped kitchens, the smell of turkey and all the trimmings will soon be wafting throughout your house, making it seem like you’ve been cooking all day, even though you know you just popped it in the oven. We believe in working smarter, not harder, and a pre-cooked meal is the ultimate life hack!
