When you dream about a white Christmas but don’t want the cold that accompanies snow, an escape to Port Aransas can turn your dreams to ones of white SAND Christmases, offering a beachy holiday and all the comforts of home, but only if you choose Sandcastle Condominiums for your Christmas accommodations. No snow will fall on your celebrations and all the traditional things you enjoy doing at the holidays will still be very much in reach, especially the parts where you check out the Christmas lights and displays. This guide to our favorite places to see Port Aransas Christmas lights will help build the anticipation and give you an early start on your Christmas spirit.
Nautical & Nice Drive Thru Holiday Light Display, Roberts Point Park, December 7 through January 5th
It’s time to get a little nautical this Christmas, and the Nautical & Nice Drive Thru Holiday Light Display held at Roberts Point Park is where you will begin. Nights can get a little chilly here in December, but you and your family will be nice and cozy as you slowly drive through a display of ocean themed holiday cutouts, forests of Christmas trees decked out in all the colors of the season, and our personal favorite tree, the Memorial Christmas Tree where you can stop, fill out a card for someone you want to be remembered and hang it from its branches. Tuning your radio to 87.9 FM during the drive will get you in the holiday spirit even faster as Christmas music will be playing and if you want to add a thermos of hot cocoa to share while driving through this fun display, even better.
Holiday Golf Cart Parade, Roberts Point Park, December 7
With a few notable exceptions, the holiday parade has begun to fade from the landscape of America, but in Port Aransas, there are two parades that bring back our favorite traditions, including this Holiday Golf Cart Parade that meanders through Roberts Point Park! Led by Santa (there is no build-up here!), ordinary golf carts are turned extraordinary with the addition of colorful lights, quirky inflatables, and in Santa’s case, his cart is retrofitted to resemble the sleigh he will be flying across the world on Christmas Eve. This event is a part of a bigger one, City Holiday in the Park, and if you arrive earlier, Santa will be available for photos and meet and greets, and a variety of other Christmas activities can be engaged in. If you don’t think you want to stop while driving your car in the cool of the night, this will be a great time to check out the Memorial Tree we mentioned in the previous paragraph.
Lighted Boat Parade & Holiday Drone Show, Port Aransas Fisherman’s Wharf, December 14
Parade number two occurs a week after the Golf Cart Parade and take the procession on a magical journey over the water. Our lighted Boat Parade & Holiday Drone Show has always been the cause of that extra sparkle in our children’s eyes, and the drone part of the festivities will make you thankful for new technology, even if you still carry around an old flip phone because you are afraid of change. Offering live music performed by the Dunebillies, the chance to meet Santa and tell him what you want for Christmas, and such a feeling of cheer, happiness, and goodwill, you may start thinking about adding a Port A Christmas escape to your list of family traditions!
Farley Boat Planter Decorations, Throughout December
When you live near the sea, your livelihood is often dependent on the work it can bring and Farley Boat Works, has been providing jobs for our residents and boats for everyone for over 100 years. At Christmas, however, they are known for their boat planters that rest in our yards, decorated for the holidays and driving around the different neighborhoods can be a fun scavenger hunt of sorts, exposing the quirkier side of our Texas homeowners. Check out planters made to look like the Grinch, their decks loaded with stolen presents, keep an eye out for Santa rowing his boat planter, and maybe you’ll find the colorful M&M’s from the commercial that is so popular at this time of year—you know, the one where they both suddenly realize the other is real and pass out in shock?
While You Are Meandering
The boat planters won’t be the only decorations you see during your Port A wanderings and as you explore the ingenuity of our locals, each home offering bigger and better light displays you will feel right at home, even as you are miles away from yours. Spend your evenings building up your supply of holiday spirit by examining all the displays we have mentioned here and spend your nights living the comfortable life in our holiday hideaways.
